Description & Requirements

THE POSITION

 As an ESG Controller within the Finance & Control department at Van Oord, you will play a pivotal role in establishing the foundation for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting in alignment with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), EU Taxonomy, and European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRSs). You will be part of the Group Reporting & Control team, reporting directly to the Manager Group Reporting & Control. Your work will contribute to Van Oord’s goal of publishing CSRD-compliant Annual Reports from 2027 onwards 

YOUR IMPACT

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Lead the double materiality assessment (DMA) in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Identify ESG-related opportunities that add value to Van Oord.
  • Define and align the company’s ESG ambition level with senior management.
  • Develop a comprehensive ESG reporting roll-out strategy.

Execution Responsibilities

  • Build upon the groundwork laid by the CSRD work group and execute the ESG reporting roadmap.
  • Design and implement reporting processes for actuals, forecasts, and plans, including definitions, scope, and measurement methods.
  • Develop an ESG reporting manual and a non-financial control framework to ensure data quality and enable external assurance.
  • Define system requirements for ESG reporting, including integration with the new ERP system and other tools.
  • Provide training on ESG reporting processes and internal controls.
  • Integrate ESG metrics into the planning & control cycle and management reporting.

Collaboration Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong internal networks with departments involved in ESG.
  • Collaborate with Group Reporting & Control to analyse non-financial data.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external assurance providers and coordinate the non-financial assurance process.


ABOUT YOU

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience, preferably in controlling or auditing.

Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of ESG reporting frameworks and regulations, including CSRD, ESRS, and EU Taxonomy.

Skills

  • Excellent analytical and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and influencing abilities, both verbal and written.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
