Description & Requirements
THE POSITION
Within our Finance and Control department, we have the Global Financial Shared Service Center (GFSSC). The primary goal of the GFSSC is to provide efficient and consistent centralized accounting and payroll services to projects, Business Units, and staff departments within Van Oord.
The GFSSC consists of five sub-teams, most of which focus on accounting tasks. These teams operate from both Rotterdam and Dubai.
YOUR IMPACT
The sub-teams are responsible for various financial accounting functions, such as:
Procure to Pay:
- Processing and payment of supplier invoices
- Expense management
Order to Cash:
- Processing of intercompany invoices & current account agreements
- Bank and cash processing
Record to Report:
- Month-end closings
- Balance sheet reconciliations and specifications
- General ledger maintenance
- Quarterly reporting
Global Payroll:
- Executing global payroll responsibilities for various Collective Labour Agreements
During your internship, you will have the opportunity to work with a specific team or rotate across different teams, contributing to their goals and processes, offering fresh perspectives, and supporting streamlined operations.
We are looking for several interns for this position. It’s a unique opportunity to rotate and gain wide-ranging experience within our Financial Shared Service Center!
YOUR WORKPLACE
You will be working from our head office in Rotterdam, with a beautiful view of the river Maas. You can start or end your workday in our in-house gym. While there is the option to work from home, we would love to see you in the office as much as possible!
The entire GFSSC team consists of 68 people from 13 different nationalities, divided across the sub-teams. You will be assigned a buddy to help you settle into the company. You’ll learn a lot from your colleagues, and we foster an open and supportive learning environment. The GFSSC is growing within Van Oord — and you can be part of this growth!
ABOUT YOU
Since you may work across different teams, you need to be able to set priorities, plan and organize, and maintain a flexible work attitude. Additionally, you should have:
- You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance & Control, Business Economics, Business Administration or a related field. For Procure to Pay (PTP) roles, a relevant MBO (vocational) education is also acceptable
- You are an EU citizen or hold a valid Dutch student residence permit
- You are available from September 2025
- Proficiency in English, both spoken and written
- You live in the Netherlands
- Strong communication and social skills
WE OFFER
In addition to an internship allowance, you will be part of a global community where every day presents a new opportunity to explore and learn. By joining our multicultural team, you’ll experience a challenging yet rewarding internship, as we encourage learning by doing and discovery.
During your internship, you’ll also have the chance to join various social activities. Van Oord has both a Young Van Oord network and an Intern Community, which organize a variety of activities ranging from field trips and (online) lectures, workshops, brainstorming sessions, sports events, to informal get-togethers.
