THE POSITION
As a Senior Risk Specialist, you will play a fundamental role in ensuring the controlled execution of projects within the Dredging & Infra Business Unit. We are seeking an experienced colleague from within our organization, ideally from the Dredging & Infra business unit. While expertise in risk management is not a prerequisite, a deep understanding of the dredging or infrastructure business is essential. This role is open to individuals from Operations or from our Engineering and Estimating department.
Your primary focus will be on proactively identifying and addressing potential threats and opportunities within the project environment, leveraging your technical knowledge to manage risks effectively during both the tender and realization phases. You will collaborate with project teams to implement Van Oord's risk methodology and best practices, ensuring comprehensive identification, analysis, and mitigation of risks. Central to your responsibilities will be the facilitation of risk workshops and the engagement in strategic risk discussions with internal teams and external stakeholders, such as clients and joint venture partners.
YOUR IMPACT
You will utilize your experience in the dredging industry to efficiently connect various project disciplines and ensure seamless integration of risk management into project tendering and realization. By proactively engaging with project teams and joint venture partners, you will help develop and maintain a high-quality risk profile. Your responsibilities will include:
- Analyzing and reporting on the outcomes of risk engagements, providing risk management services to multiple concurrent projects (tender and realization phases);
- Continuously updating and communicating risk exposures (occurrences and trends) on projects;
- Maintaining project risk data and producing dashboards and forecasts;
- Reporting critical risk data to multiple stakeholders, both internally and externally;
- Providing risk input for new events or changes to projects (e.g., design changes).
Your work Environment
Who will you be working with? You will be part of the Risk Management team, which is a discipline in the Engineering and Estimating Department. The risk team comprises approximately 10 passionate colleagues working across different business units and specializations. Our team is strongly focused on balancing investments and risks. Over the past year, we have laid a solid foundation for corporate risk management.
This is your opportunity to contribute as a specialist to the further development and standardization of our risk team! We believe in combining knowledge and expertise to bring out the best in each other. In addition to your own team, you will collaborate closely with multiple engineering disciplines, project management, staff departments, and operations to enhance Van Oord's project results. Your experience in the dredging industry and project management will enable you to contribute to the evolution of our risk approach and make a tangible impact within the organization.
ABOUT YOU
With at least 5-10 years of hands-on project experience, Ideally in dredging and/or infrastructure projects, you are now looking to leverage your expertise in risk management. You are passionate about identifying, understanding, and managing risks, and you excel at connecting people across disciplines. Additionally:
- You have significant experience in the dredging and/or infrastructural industry;
- You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in engineering or a related field;
- You possess strong analytical skills, enabling you to manage risk assessments, reports, and forecasts;
- You have excellent communication skills in English (both spoken and written);
- You are familiar with risk management methodologies
- You are available full-time (minimum 32 hours per week).
- The primary work location will be our headquarters in Rotterdam. However, international business travel may also be required.
