THE POSITION

You use your data handling skills and knowledge of geo-information systems and to provide the projects with an insight into their geodata of all types. You use your scripting skills to build an infrastructure mostly based on Open Source software and believe in automating data flows from system to end user. For new data acquisition tools you are able to use your creativity to (co-)develop a suitable solution to make the acquired data usable for world-wide projects.


YOUR IMPACT

As GIS developer of Van Oord you support projects worldwide by providing insight in data necessary for their operations. You can develop and maintain the tools necessary for enabling colleagues to access the data insights and:

  • You build the foundation beneath the services of the Survey GIS team;
  • You help the geodata engineers within the team implement best scripting practices;
  • Sometimes you are asked to propose technical solutions to spatial questions in a project, creating a custom tool for QGIS, web application development for visualisation of spatial data, integration between systems as well as contacts with clients;
  • You take responsibility for streamlining development and service provision;
  • Thanks to your data based systems, our tender specialists and project teams always have efficient and adequate access to up-to-date spatial information. As such, you have a crucial role in developing the GIS team and the use of GIS within Van Oord, all in an international environment.

Together with your colleagues of the Survey GIS team at our offices in Rotterdam, you will be given plenty of room to give your ideas on GIS a place within Van Oord, in the Netherlands and far beyond. ABOUT YOU

You love to work with python and databases. You are familiar with GIS data formats and know your way around Qgis and PostGis. You have experience working with REST APIs and microservices and get enthusiastic finding out how to connect our backend to other data applications within van Oord. You like to keep your code organised using version control. In addition, you bring the following to the table:


  • Creativity and critical thinking;
  • At least 3 years of development experience; 
  • Willing to learn new technologies, share knowledge and ideas, and also care about quality;
  • A qualification at higher vocational (HBO/Bsc) level and knowledge of GIS; 
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and know how they can aid a better information infrastructure;
  • Experience in Python development and Git environment;
  • Excellent command of English;
  • Experience with FME, Docker, Javascript and Azure Cloud services is a plus.
