The position
Van Oord Engineering & Estimating Department E&E is the technical backbone of the organisation. The global team of 650+ colleagues is responsible for the quality of engineering from winning a project through a successful tender, through to project completion. Marine Ingenuity is in the heart of our department: the team encompasses true expert leaders and true integrator leaders – our challenge is to bring both worlds together in the business.
As an HR business partner for E&E you will play a pivotal role in building up the organisation: working on managing through change and team development, whilst guarding the HR fundaments are of key importance in the year(s) ahead. You have the opportunity to take on exciting projects to build up the technical expertise in Van Oord.
As HR business partner, your success lies in collaborating with the HR manager, managers and team leads and the HR CoE and HR Operations. You will partner with the respective teams to influence the people and talent agenda to drive business outcomes and goals. Your responsibilities encompass tactical and strategic people priorities, on a global level, including leadership development, coaching, strategic workforce planning, team composition, performance management, employee engagement, sickness absence management, DEI, organizational effectiveness, driving the organizational values and culture, and change management. You will report into the HR manager and you will receive support from an HR advisor and our HR Services department. Nevertheless, you have end-to-end responsibility for the correct administration for your scope to make sure everything runs smoothly.
You will promote the adoption of the HR operating model within the business, ensuring employees and managers feel well-supported by the global HR function, including the HR Centers of Expertise (CoEs). You include HR data & people analytics in decision-making processes. You will work closely with the HR manager, other HR business partners/ advisors, and CoEs to promote collaboration across functions and cross-pollination of ideas and knowledge-sharing.
Your responsibilities
- Support the implementation of both the E&E department business and people strategy as well as embedding the Van Oord overall HR strategy, specifically in the business strategy;
- Provide leadership on specific business-related HR projects;
- Co-develop, initiate and implement HR/ People plans for the E&E department you will be HRBP for, including the annual HR cycle, ensuring sustainability and relevance by bringing relevant people data and insights/ information;
- Advise and collaborate on the design and implementation of specific HR programs/projects;
- Partner with the HR manager E&E, other HR business partner and advisors, and CoEs for cross-functional collaboration to meet the challenges of the business and vice versa;
- Actively deliver solutions related to E&E workforce, talent, and organizational matters.
Your workplace
Your role extends beyond the office environment – you will occasionally visit projects and/or ships, engage in crucial conversations, and immerse yourself in the maritime environment.
The HR partnering team consists of approximately 30 colleagues, working for different departments and business units. You will report to the E&E HR manager, working closely with them to influence the E&E People agenda, driving business outcomes and goals. The E&E HR team consist of 1 HR Manager, 2 HR Business Partners and 1 HR Advisor. For specific knowledge on recruitment, compensation & benefits, etc., we are supported by our Centers of Expertise (CoEs), which you can always consult.
Job requirements
In our quest for a new HR Business Partner to join our team, we are looking for an HR professional who is a navigator, approachable and both action- and service-oriented, ready to steer through the challenges of the maritime industry. Your ability to uncover the 'question behind the question' is your compass, showcasing your intuitive understanding of human dynamics. Balancing sensitivity with resilience, you're not afraid to navigate the waters of difficult conversations. Embracing a roll-up-sleeves mentality, you recognize that success often requires hands-on dedication.
Your Credentials:
- You hold a relevant diploma (bachelor's/master's) in Human Resources;
- Minimum of 8 years relevant HR in the business work experience in a complex international (project) organization;
- Resilient, not afraid to speak up and constructively challenge others and embraces change
- Pro-active, solution minded, both strategic and pragmatic, result driven, DEI aware, has a hands-on and can do mentality. Ability to work in a matrix organisation.
- Preferable a base knowledge of Dutch legislation and regulations;
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
