THE POSITION

As Junior Commercial Manager, your challenge will be to identify commercial opportunities in the market, work on the strategic objectives and participate in the full tender process of potential projects throughout the region. 

Working with the local commercial team, you will ensure that you map the market and are involved in emerging tenders at an early stage. You will both sit at the client’s table and work with the internal organization to execute tenders. 

 

YOUR IMPACT

In this dynamic role, you proactively establish contacts and maintain relationships with clients and external partners. In doing so, you coordinate and collaborate on tenders, give direction to the PQ desk and, are a sparring partner for the commercial colleagues. 

In addition, these are your main responsibilities:

  • You build and maintain a strong network in the market and know how to exploit and create opportunities (at an early stage);
  • You work on various tenders simultaneously with various internal and external stakeholders. In this, you bring structure, can switch quickly and know how to set the right priorities;
  • You provide input to the CRM, such as a portfolio of potential projects, and contribute to the annual plans;
  • You will represent Van Oord in contractual meetings with clients and partners and promote Van Oord’s interests.

 

YOUR WORKPLACE

As Junior Commercial Manager, you are part of the commercial team stationed in Rotterdam and will travel 1 week per month to your (potential) clients. You will also work together with various disciplines (tender & engineering, legal, finance etc.) within and outside Van Oord on tenders for the entire sub Saharan Africa. The atmosphere is dynamic, open and transparent. You will be working with a diverse range of clients and cultures. You will have the space to use your expertise, shape this new position and develop further commercially. 

 

ABOUT YOU

You are strong in relationship management and have the sensitivity required for a commercial position. You are willing to learn, collaboration-oriented, communicatively strong and commercially driven. You have a winners’ mentality especially in the face of adversity. You have knowledge of and affinity with the dredging and infra solutions Van Oord can offer, and you have a commercially and technically creative mindset.   • You have a Bachelor or Master degree, preferably within a technical study;
  • You have at least 3 years’ experience in the dredging sector in a relevant position, experience in the execution of projects is an important plus;
  • You have a good network within Van Oord;
  • You have knowledge of tendering, the tender process and contracting;
  • Excellent command of the English language, spoken and written and are culturally aware. Command of the French or Portuguese language is a plus;
  • Your willingness to travel to Southern Africa and meet with stakeholders as and when needed is a must.
