Description & Requirements

THE POSITION

In this internship, you will play a key role in optimising Van Oord’s intranet and Viva Engage platform. You will conduct research on user experience, identify areas for improvement, and propose solutions to enhance usability and engagement. Your work will contribute to aligning the intranet structure with corporate strategy while also supporting business units and editors in keeping content relevant and up to date. Additionally, you will develop instructional materials, create training content, and explore ways to foster engagement among the intranet’s 120 editors.


YOUR WORKPLACE 

As part of the Corporate Communication team, you’ll be working in a dynamic and collaborative environment where clear and effective communication is key. Our team is dedicated to engaging both internal and external audiences, ensuring consistent messaging across various channels. With three specialised sub-teams—internal, external, and online communication—you’ll gain valuable experience in crafting impactful messages, supporting strategic projects, and contributing to a strong corporate narrative.

YOUR IMPACT

As an intern, you will play a key role in optimising our intranet experience. Your tasks may include:

 

  • User Research – Conduct surveys, interviews, and usability tests to understand challenges and opportunities.
  • Analysis & Insights – Assess usability issues, structure information, and align the platform with corporate strategy.
  • Recommendations – Develop improvement strategies for better navigation, engagement, and overall user experience.
  • Content & Training – Create guides, tips, and training materials for intranet editors and users.
  • Implementation & Testing – Design prototypes and conduct user testing to validate improvements.

 

You will deliver research findings, usability improvement plans, training materials, and prototypes of suggested changes.

ABOUT YOU

  • HBO Communication or WO Communication Science; or a related study
  • Available from September 2025
  • Fluent in English 
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with CMS systems, Adobe Photoshop, or InDesign is a plus.
  • Available from September 2025


WE OFFER YOU

You will be working from our head office in Rotterdam with a view on the beautiful Maas. You can start or end your working day at our own gym in the office. Of course there is also a possibility to work from home, but we would like to see you at the office as much as possible!
