Description & Requirements

The position

As Project Counsel you will actively support the Business Unit in the acquisition and execution of international projects. You will be part of multi-disciplinary team. You will have to identify, qualify, negotiate and manage legal and contractual risks. You will assist in drafting and negotiating both main contracts and key supply chain contracts.

Van Oord facilitates ’hybrid working’ (office/home) to the extent the work allows, but regular physical presence in Gorinchem offices will be required. Beyond that occasional travel (abroad or otherwise) may be required.

Your focus is not only on the strictly legal side of things but also on the operational, financial and commercial aspects that come into play in the business. You will work with your colleagues to improve the know-how of the legal team including contract standardisation.

Your responsibilities

  • Analysing tender documents in English, issued by international clients (both public and private entities) and identify legal and contractual risks;
  • Drafting contractual conditions in English that qualify our commercial offer;
  • Supporting your commercial, finance and procurement colleagues;
  • Drafting the complete spectrum of contractual documents and agreements required for the correct execution of an international offshore project, from pre-qualification to final taking-over and beyond;
  • Contributing in the development and implementation of standard contracts, company policies and other procedures with contracting or legal implications;
  • Advising on-going project issues minimising the risk and maximising the return to Van Oord;
  • Handling legal disputes in cooperation with senior management, the project team and where necessary with external counsel.

Job requirements

We expect you to be a pro-active, self-confident, constructive and creative advisor, who looks for solutions, values teamwork and can put things in perspective. The ideal candidate is capable of working in different teams and on different projects simultaneously. Because Van Oord has live projects in various parts of the world and in different time zones, some flexibility with regard to working times is important. Furthermore, it's important that you:

  • Are a fully qualified lawyer in a relevant jurisdiction, preferably with a practising certificate;
  • Have at least five years of working experience, preferably in the offshore oil and gas and/or (offshore) renewable industry and/or maritime industry;
  • Have experience with FIDIC, NEC, LOGIC and/or BIMCO standard contracts;
  • Have experience with contracts governed by English or other common law jurisdictions. A good command of the English language is crucial, the command of other languages is a plus;
  • Are eligible for working in the EU;
  • Have well-developed negotiating and drafting skills.

We offer

We offer you a position in which you will have an important contribution to our mission 'building a better world for future generations'. In addition, we offer you:

  • A salary that matches your responsibilities and experience;
  • 32 leave days per year;
  • Variable bonus;
  • Option to join the collective health insurance (a.o. Van Oord pays for the additional care package)
  • Pension scheme;
  • Flexible working from home policy, 2 days a week when working on a full-time basis;
  • Extensive learning and (personal) development possibilities;
  • Several events and sportsactivities can be joined, e.g. Wintersport trip, Sailing weekends, Cycling trip, Hockey competition, yearly motorbike tours.

Acquisition by outside agencies is not appreciated.
